7 Rugby Scholarships

Texas A&M University has three scholarships of 1,000 dollars. There is men’s scholarship, women’s scholarship and Memorial Scholarship. At Old Boys, the Miami Rugby Alumni Association awards two 500 dollar scholarships. The American International College in Springfield, MA is offering over 100,000 dollars in scholarships for the men’s and women’s rugby program.

High school seniors that are in the Minnesota high school U19 rugby program can apply for a MARF scholarship. Every year, two boys and two girls are awarded 1000 dollars. The applicants must have two years of rugby experience unless the club was not available the previous year. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative G.P.A and are responsible for submitting a transcript. A recommendation from school faculty, coach, and teacher can be mailed, faxed, or emailed. In order to receive the scholarship, students must be leaders on and off the field. All candidates must play at the state high school tournament for final selection and the deadline is two weeks prior to the tournament on that Friday. The name of the college the student is attending must be given. After the final selections during the tournament the winner will be announced at the U19 banquet.

The Aranmore Catholic College also has a rugby scholarship available. Students applying need to have: a wonderful attendance record, a record of appropriate behavior, a good attitude to the beliefs of the College, and be successful in rugby and their school program.

Students who are currently playing rugby in Canada are eligible for the Thomas Family Scholarship if they are between 17 and 21 years of age and enrolled in a full-time degree the following fall. The recipient of the scholarship may not apply again but non-recipients may reapply the subsequent year. Strong academic achievement, recognized contribution to the local and rugby communities, and actively playing rugby are the selection criteria for the scholarship. Completed application forms with two letters of recommendations from individuals on the application are required. A 250 word letter must also be included explain the reason why the recipient is worthy of the award. In the letter include the involvement in the rugby community, volunteer activities, academic achievements, and future goals.

The Waikato Rugby Union offers scholarships to New Zealand citizens (or permanent residence) ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 dollars for one year with a maximum of three years. Recipients of the Scholarship must be part of the Rugby Union Academy/Development system and playing rugby for Waikato during the years of the scholarship. The selection will be based on sporting potential, academic merit, and involvement in community activities. Certified copies of the secondary school results and proof of New Zealand citizenship/permanent residency are required for applicants enrolling at the University of Waikato for the first time.
