Tall PeopleStarting out for college can be an exciting and rewarding time in a young student’s life. Many new experiences will await college freshmen from meeting a new, diverse group of friends to learning about the world as a whole through a manifold of eclectic minds. College expenses are very high, and it can be difficult to attend school even for those who receive financial aid, and the consequences of student loans can be dangerous later on in life. There are abundant funds available for students of all kinds out there today, and the more unique you are may prove to lend to your advantage.

For example, there are scholarship programs for left-handed people, for people who are overweight, and there are even scholarship programs available exclusively to students of certain heights. One such scholarship program is for young students of tall stature that is through the Tall Clubs International. Tall Clubs International is an organization that promotes awareness of tall people to the community and other tall people, makes social activities available to members based on mutual interest, and promotes travel and gatherings between branches. The organization has been around since the late 1940s and has 55 chapters in the United States.

The two big qualifiers for membership and to apply for a scholarship are that you must be a female who is 5’10” or taller, or a male who is 6’2” or taller and that they are a student under the age of 21 who is entering their first year of college in the fall. If you meet these major qualifiers, the next thing you need to do is to join your local chapter of the Tall Club International and ask the local chapter to nominate you for the scholarship. Some local chapters already have methods for finding and determining nominees. Further qualifiers for the scholarship are also available through local chapters.

The Tall Club International awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000 and recipients are announced at the yearly convention, when the club conducts its yearly business. Applicants may apply for two undergraduate scholarships and one graduate scholarship. This means as a Tall Club International member scholarship recipient, you stand a chance of receiving up to a total of $3,000 of funding to apply towards educational needs.

When applying for any scholarship try to remember these important factors; Applications that are not filled out completely and correctly are often rejected. It is also important that you give yourself plenty of time to assemble the application packet, as sometimes letters of reference are required. Applications that are not submitted by the deadline are not considered. Use proper grammar and check your application for correct spelling as mistakes in this area are also considered. And finally, if you are the recipient of a scholarship award, send a thank you letter as this will show your good manners and reflect well when applying for further assistance.

LOL. No chance for me on this one. But I find it amazing how many different scholarships are available. And funny that an organization promotes awareness of tall people as if they’re not noticed already. :)

I keep trying to get in touch with SOMEONE, anyone, from this organization. I have been 6 feet tall since Middle School, And I am now 6′ 5″ and want to attend College, but need some financial assistance. Is this group actually real? Because I can’t reach them, at all, it seems.

Do not get yourself stuck on one scholarship. My advice to you is apply the best you can then move on. Keep looking for other scholarships I understand you are tall what about your religious beliefs or grade point average.
