Getting Paramedic Scholarships Is Easy

26 March, 2011 (00:37) | Paramedic Scholarships | By: Carlo Evanson

Paramedic ScholarshipsSo you’ve decided to become a paramedic. Helping people is your life’s calling and yet, you are second guessing yourself once you’ve looked up what tuition at college costs these days. Once you factor in tuition, books, lab fees and room & board, the cost of attending college is very expensive. But you’ve picked a great field and there are plenty of scholarships available to help you get through college.

Paramedic scholarships are constantly being offered to students pursuing a degree in paramedics. It is a noble career, so many companies and groups give out money to paramedic students even though they have nothing to do with the medical field.

Scholarships are virtually free money. When free money is being offered up, why take out a loan if you don’t need to? There’s a variety of different criteria that you may need to meet, but when the only cost of applying is some time and a postage stamp, there’s really nothing to lose.

Asking questions of your financial aid advisor will give you many of the answers you need. They’ll usually be able to steer you in the right direction for what you can and cannot qualify for. They may even be able to give you a list of scholarships. Don’t assume that the list has everything. Many companies keep their scholarships on the down low because they don’t want to be bombarded with applications. Those ones may only be offering one or two scholarships, but the amount can mean a significant percentage of your tuition.

The more criteria that you meet, the more scholarships you can apply for. There is a Boundtree Medical Legacy Scholarship that gives out money to students who are the son or daughter of EMS personnel, firefighters or police officers. There are other scholarships that are only for women. Some cities have paramedic associations that are giving out scholarships if you have lived in that city for a certain number of years. Other scholarships are available through local chapters of the Rotary and other such clubs.

Many scholarships for pursuing a paramedic degree require that you can show financial need, a great academic record, or both. There are hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each scholarship, so companies need a way of being able to award them. Having the best grades and writing the most compelling essays will be the way to ensure that your name appears on the top of their lists.

Going to school for paramedics and emergency response is a great field of study. Though it can be expensive, that shouldn’t stand in your way of pursuing an education. Paramedic scholarships are out there, waiting to be awarded, so taking the time to fill out the applications will result in free money that you can apply towards your education.
