Many of them are for use your freshman year of high school (or even further down the road), but the good news is – you qualify now! And there are even some scholarships that are available to you right now, while you are still in high school.
What Kind of High School Scholarships Are There?
Scholarships for high school students come in a myriad of forms. You have scholarships that are given out by small private groups and organizations, scholarships that are given out by local, state and Federal government programs, and scholarships that are made available through individual colleges and universities who want you to come to their school.
How Do You Qualify for a High School Scholarship?
Which scholarships you accept will depend a good deal on which scholarships you qualify for. The qualifications for these scholarships can vary from scholarship to scholarship; it will depend on what you are looking for and what you have to offer.
Some scholarships are given out based entirely on academic merit, so if you are an exceptional student, you may want to look into those scholarships that are given out based on standardized test scores or through you showing your talent with a particular subject of study.
Other scholarships are given out due to talent in other areas such as music or sports and you have to be able to show your aptitude for the sport or the instrument in order to qualify for a scholarship.

Popular Scholarships for High School Students
The American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contest is open to all high school students whose parents are not in the United States Foreign Service. Those who win this scholarship get $2,500 plus a trip to Washington, D.C. with their parents. On top of that, the winner’s school receives an additional $500.
The Dell Scholars Program is given out to high school students who can demonstrate financial need and who are participating in a qualified AVID program at their high schools. More under-served students with financial need to achieve their greatest potential through higher education. Each Dell Scholar recipient gets $20,000 and 250 scholarships are given out each year.
The Sylvia K. Burack Writing Award is a writing contest that is open to high school juniors and seniors in the U.S. and Canada. To qualify you have to submit an unpublished essay. The award is $500.
The Discover Scholarship Program awards 10 scholarships of $25,000 each to high school juniors nationwide. Qualifications include being a high school junior at the time of application, having a 2.75 GPA for 9th and 10th grade as well as other specifics.
