Scholarships for Twins
Twins are not just double the trouble; they are double the cost when it comes to a college education. Luckily, there are enough scholarships for twins out there that double duos can make quite a dent in the cost of their education.
What Kinds of Scholarships Are There?
When it comes to scholarships for twins, there are two basic kinds; scholarships that are given out by the individual colleges and universities themselves, and scholarships that are awarded by groups and organizations that have been set up to help twins, and the families of twins, finance their education.
Some Popular Scholarships for Twins
These first scholarships are colleges that are known to have significant scholarships and/or discounts for twins who choose to attend the same university:
Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia offers a 15% discount on tuition when both twins are enrolled. This can add up significantly over four years, as the discount is usable each year.
Sterling College in Sterling Kansas has had a Twin Scholarship program which it has maintained for the last two decades. Each twin (or multiple birth) student receives a 50% tuition scholarship. This amounts roughly to $9,000 in savings per twin.
Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania is an all-female school that offers an annual scholarship for twins and triplets. It will pay 45% of each student’s annual tuition.
Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma offers the Paula Nieto Twin Scholarship of $200 each annually to each twin attending the college.
Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio offers a full tuition scholarship to pairs of twins attending their college, which amounts to two for the price of one. Both need to be enrolled full time at the college.
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma offers a Twin/Triplet Dorm Waiver which covers the amount of semi-private room expenses for each twin or triplet who attend NEO together.
Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana offers the Layton Frazier McKinley Scholarship which is given two twins with a preference to identical twins. Students have to maintain a 3.33 GPA with a first choice of accounting as their major at the school
Eastern Michigan University awards The Furlotte Twins Endowed Scholarship is for upperclassmen enrolled in the Elementary Education.
If Twins are not planning on attending the same college, they may still qualify for some scholarships through outside organizations. There are a number of local “mothers of twins” clubs that fund individual scholarships. Most “mothers of twins” clubs belong to the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs.
The annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio awards a $1,000 scholarship to a pair of twins to help with college expenses. The winning pair of twins must be seniors in high school and have attended and registered at least three of the last five festivals.
The Northwest Association Mother of Twins Clubs awards several scholarships per year to those candidates who qualify as a multiple birth and are looking to further their education. Once known as the Twin Scholarship Fund, it is now called the Shan Pynes Scholarship.
