While most people equate Calgon with the frothy bath salts, Calgon is really a brand registered trademark of different companies who make a variety of bath products and water softeners. The original company was Calgon, Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and they sold water softeners. Currently the bath and beauty products company known as Calgon is owned by Ilex Capital of Annapolis Maryland.
The Take Me Away Scholarship
The Calgon Take Me Away to College Scholarship competition provides over $8,000 in scholarship awards to winners of its essay competition. It is quite is simple to apply for the scholarship; fill out the application at the online website (application available as of October for the following school year). The application includes a series of essay questions, and the winners will be awarded the dollar amounts.
While it may seem like money, there is one major catch; applicants must be female (aged 18 or older). There are a few relatively minor specifications (such as being a legal residents of the United States and starting college full time in the fall or already enrolled at an accredited four-year school in the United States and have a minimum 3.0 GPA), guys are just out of luck; they don’t qualify to enter.
Rules and regulations regarding the Calgon Take Me Away to College competition can be found on the Calgon website as well as the deadlines for entering. While the site is not currently taking applications, the competition will re-open in the fall.
